Once again we have had a tremendously full & blessed week!
Most of the week has been focused on preparing the Fall Fest Outreach
& building our website content. All of you that check out our
website, will see changes daily. The big changes implementing our
graphics will be seen within the next week & much more in the weeks
following. So all of you with pictures, videos, & stories
of your experiences with SRM/LOL & God keep sending them to me.
We did take time this week for a Core Guest Speaking for the Shawnee
Board of REALTORS® luncheon on Friday. We want to thank their members
for inviting us to speak. Those that attended the luncheon blessed us
tremendously by taking up a collection & raising $1,228.66! They
also came up with the great idea to challenge every realtor in Shawnee
to each buy one sleeping bag for the homeless. This will be such a
blessing to be able to make sure our people stay warm especially with
this cold weather getting harsher each day. Many more are joining us in
our fight against poverty & we welcome them to our group.
Finally, we wrapped up our week with Fall Fest Flyer hand out this
morning. We covered a lot of the areas we felt would benefit most from
the outreach, but there are still many more to get to. So please call
us if you can do even a few blocks one night this evening, especially
anyone in Tecumseh because we have not been able to get there at all.
As we look forward to the next week, the big thing on the horizon is
the Fall Fest Outreach. For detailed information about what is still
needed please see the Fall Fest Outreach page.
Part of the
outreach's needs are being raised in the DRIVE. This term refers to the
blankets, coats, sleeping bags, & especially clothing drive we have
going on in order to have items to give away at the outreach. We have
tallied what we already have gathered & are coming up very short on
clothing in comparison to what we normally have at the outreaches.
Please know that all of the clothes we receive will be given to those
in need, no charge. Also, one note, we hang these up at the park for
people to look through, so if you can leave your clothes on the hangers
& save us a step. In order to accommodate any & all donations,
we have the following services set-up:
- My
assistant has opened her house as a drop off site by appointment or we
will even pick-up your items if need be. To set up a drop off
appointment or have your items picked up call our main line or Jan Hinesley @ 885-1633.
- For
those who can, please announce our need for clothing, hangers, &
clothes racks to your church. If you would be willing, please take it a
step further & ask them to bring everything to your church next
Sunday the 18th. For those who can bring the items to our storage call
& we will set up a time on Monday the 19th for someone to meet you
there. If not, we will arrange to pick them up on that Monday or
Tuesday.
- The drop-off day at Living Word Church on North Kickapoo on October 22 10am to 4 pm.
- Nicole (Wood) Allen will serve as the DRIVE collector for St. Gregory's & accept small donations at her office on campus.
- We also have added a drop-off evening at the site of the daycenter, 506 S. Beard, on Monday, October 19th from 5pm to 8 pm.
Finally, remember if you want to get a SRM/LOL
t-shirt, volunteers can get shirts for themselves or to donate to the
homeless at cost for $5 (that includes tax) before the outreach. They
will be $10 on the day of & there after until we do another mass
volunteer order. In order to get your shirt send us an email with your
name & size, childrens' sizes available. We have people at various
churches serving to collect the money for their group (ask in your
email who your church's is) or you can bring it to Brandy directly.
All t-shirts must be paid for by Monday, October 19th. Brandy will be
at the Sunday Lunch in Woodland Park @ 2pm October 18th or the DRIVE drop-off on that day at the daycenter
site to collect t-shirt money as well. The t-shirts will available to
be picked-up on Friday, October 23rd at our temporary headquarters 3700
N.
Kickapoo Ste 140 (the old Eric's Pharmacy at the north end of the
Family Medicine Specialist building) from 5 pm to 7 pm. Or at the
volunteer table at the outreach. The outreach begins at 2pm
but the table & Brandy will be there with the shirts at noon. Sorry
no credit cards accepted, checks can be written to Shawnee Rescue
Mission. Hooded zip-up sweatshirts are also available at cost, which
will be determined by next weeks update.
Please feel
free to contact us. We are here to help, answer questions, pray for
you, or anything else that you may need from us. We cannot do what we
do without you! We are grateful for each & everyone of you!
