WOW! Thanks to a friend of the Shawnee Rescue Mission, the front page story last week in the News-Star, someone has pledged to donate one of the two 5 ton heat and air units we need! PRAISE GOD! Only one more unit or about $6000 cash and we will have all we need to be "legal to occupy" at our new daycenter for the homeless in Shawnee.
THANKS!
The event at the park went great yesterday. God blessed 75 or more homeless with Free hot chili from Taco Tico and Starbucks gave Free coffee too! Afterward, SRM took 8 of the homeless to the bowling alley for a night of fun! But after the fun was over we had to take them all back to where they call "home" and it is such a sad reality to see the raw truth. One couple sleeps in a rusted out horse trailer in a ditch - and shares it with 3 other people. Another couple, only 19 and 20 years old, lives under the bridge and the rest just lived by a creek. No tent - no protection from the elements - nothing. It has been so cold lately and I hate just walking from my warm car to my warm home! If anybody has any spare tents, flashlights, sleeping bags or back packs, please call 878-8700 to arrange for pick up or if you want to donate towards these needs, please send to our address:
