Hello Friends of Shawnee Rescue Mission!
Time for a long overdue update with Shawnee Rescue Mission!
First off, Thanks to all who have supported this Christ centered
ministry. If you have just joined the ministries efforts or have been
with us since the beginning ten years ago, we are so thankful for
everyone!
Our season of weekly feedings concluded this week with the Thanksgiving
meal last Sunday. Thank You Fairview Baptist Church, Starbucks Coffee
and Taco Tico for providing all the food for almost 50 homeless and
needy people.
With the cold winter weather rapidly approaching, SRM is now focusing
on completing our brand new day center at 506 South Beard in Shawnee.
It will be a refuge for the homeless and needy, a warm, safe place for
them go during the day where they will find help with their situation
and Christian fellowship.
New Day Center Updates- The day center is so close to being '' Legal to
occupy'' . The doors and windows are on, the outside stucco work has
started, the outside rock is on order and labor has been all donated!
The parking lot is completely legal with the city, as far as codes and
all as well.
The inside has been framed and the electrician and plumber have BOTH
donated their professional labor COMPLETELY FREE!! The supplies have
been ordered and should be started next week. We BELIEVE we have a
source that is going to donate the sheet rock for FREE. As soon as we
know for sure, all we have to do is rent a truck and pick it up!!
So, at this point, it looks like our last big hurdle is gonna be the
heat and air. We need 2 big 5ton units and all duct work done. Looks
like that's about $13,000 total. Once that is raised, we will have a
3.000 sq foot day center ready to go - paid for and debt free - all by
the grace of our God! If you get a chance, drive by and even stop and
take a look inside. 506 South Beard in Shawnee. Many of God's wonderful
people will have their needs met there, body, soul and spirit, for many
years to come!
We want to thank everyone that came out and helped Salvation Army
yesterday. Many hundreds were fed and ministered to. Great weather and
great food. All the more reason to give thanks to God.
Many needs were met this week. We had a phone call from a friend of
Shawnee Rescue Mission and he wanted to know what needs were not being
met that he could help with. We told him of how the Salvation Army
needed 15 more turkeys for Thanksgiving. He said he would talk to his
co-workers and see how many they could help with. Well, he called back
a few minutes later and said they decided to do them ALL! Praise God!
Also, SRM was able to transport many people to several Thanksgiving
dinners and church services this week. We were blessed to be able to
take a small group out to the bowling alley this week as well. All
things done in His name.
We also thank God that a friend of SRM recently donated a pretty good
church van/bus! It doesn't have any seats, but we are planning on going
to a salvage yard soon to meet that need! This van is truly a answer to
our prayers. THANK YOU!
Please check out our new website! We keep the calender updated with all
our activities and events. Its the best place to go to find out what
the latest news is.
Thanks and God Bless You All
